The bell tower of the Franciscan Church, built in the 15 cent., was a component part of a unique Gothic religious building ensemble, the Franciscan Church and Friary of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The bell tower was demolished in 1873.

Report of Vilnius City Council to the governor of Vilnius about the institutions established in the buildings of the former Franciscan Friary:

“At this time the building of the former Franciscan Friary is home to the Offices of the Society for the Protection of the Poor, living quarters for employees of the said Society, a free canteen, the Tsarevich’s Hostel-Nursery, a night shelter, an Old People’s Home, the St Zita Society and its laundry and night shelter”.
