Map of the occupation zones of Great Britain, the United States of America, France and the Soviet Union in Germany and Austria

1946

269 DP (Displaced Persons) camps were established in the three occupation zones of Allied-occupied Germany - USA, Great Britain, France - where people who ended up in Western Europe during World War II lived. Lithuanian refugees lived in 113 of them.

After the war, there were about 60,000 Lithuanian refugees in Germany's Displaced Persons (DP) camps (the majority in the occupation zones of Great Britain and the United States of America). Until 1950 most of them moved to the United States, Australia, Canada or even New Zealand.
